Imagine a weekend when you are on a beautiful beach looking at the sunset, away from the monotony of daily life. Your imagination will be real if you come to Henry’s Island, which has become one of the most popular beaches adjoining the Sunder ban.Henry Island  is an island near Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas, India. It is around 130 km from Kolkata. Henry Island is named after a European who surveyed land in the area in the late 19th Century. Dense mangrove forest parted by numerous canals covered the area then. There is no one to pry other than the red fiddler crabs dotting the shore. Lazing on the sprawling and deserted beach is very enjoyable. The view from the Sundari Tourist Complex tower is excellent and refreshing. Under the supervision of the Fisheries Department of the Government of West Bengal, some 100 hectare land is being used for pisiculture along with forest conservation. A place like this always appears enchanting. There is a watchtower which offers a complete panoramic view of the entire island from its top. The sea here is quite timid and as you walk on the slightly black colored beach, you will see many ships sailing in the distant sea.

Places to see at Henry Island: The main attraction of Henry Island is the beach adjacent to the Sunderbans. Besides, there is a watchtower where you can climb and get the complete view of the island. Then there are the Bheris – large shallow lakes, nearly 30 of them scattered throughout the island dedicated to pisiculture.

How to reach Henry’s Island:  From Sealdah Station you have to catch The Namkhana Local  to reach Namkhana Station...(Train journey approx 3.5 hours-train fair :Sealdah-nNaamkhana- Rs-20/-) )After that u need to pick up a van ricksaw to reach The Jeti Ghat(10 minutes-Cost Rs-15 per head)..You need to cross the river Hatania-Doyania by Boat(Time-1 minute, Cost- 50 paisa/Head)...then pick up a  car to reach Henry Island..Your  Hotel..( Time 35 minutes by Car , Costs-Rs-350.....1 Hour by Motor Van-costs-Rs -250/-)
